What workbench systems is this planing stop compatible with?
The HD-DT04 is fully compatible with standard 19mm and 20mm dog holes.
How do the adjustable posts work, and will they wear out my workbench holes?
The posts feature premium knurled brass clamping knobs and integrated high-friction green O-rings. The O-rings ensure a snug fit inside the 19mm or 20mm holes to prevent rocking under heavy planing pressure, while completely protecting the wood walls of your workbench from aluminum-to-wood friction damage.
How thin is the stop, and will my hand plane blade hit it?
The main body of the stop has an ultra-low profile of only 7mm (roughly 1/4 inch) in thickness. This incredibly slim design ensures that standard hand planes (like a No. 4, No. 5, or low-angle block plane) clear the metal body effortlessly, allowing you to plane stock as thin as 8mm without the risk of nicking your precious plane iron.
Can I use this for wide panels, or is it just for narrow boards?
It is excellent for both. You can buy two planing stops and you can line them up end-to-end to create a long, straight continuous reference wall for wide panels, or position them at a 90-degree angle to brace a board on two sides for heavy material removal or aggressive scrubbing.
Does it lock down completely flat, or does it sit proud of the table?
It sits completely flat against the workbench surface. The included brass knobs clamp the posts from underneath the table (or via the side channels), pulling the 7mm anodized plate down perfectly flush against your benchtop for zero-wobble stability.
