What makes this a "2-in-1" scraper? Do I need to change blades to switch functions?
The HD-GD05 features a permanent dual-headed configuration with different profiles on each end. One side houses a square, flat carbide insert designed for crisp 90-degree internal corners and flush-scraping flat surfaces. The opposite side features a slightly radiused (curved) profile, specifically engineered to prevent the sharp corners of the blade from "digging" or gouging into your wood during flat surface prep. You simply flip the tool in your hand to switch profiles—no tool changes required.
Can this scraper handle dried, rock-hard Titebond/polyurethane wood glue, or will it dull the blade instantly?
It handles hardened glue effortlessly. Unlike traditional steel scraper premium blades that dull quickly when striking hardened glue ridges, the HD-GD05 utilizes industrial-grade, ultra-hard tungsten carbide inserts. Carbide maintains its razor-sharp shearing edge significantly longer than tool steel, allowing you to cleanly slice off cured glue squeeze-out without dulling or chipping.
Are the carbide inserts indexable? How many sharp edges do I get per blade?
Yes, they are fully indexable. The square insert features four identical pre-sharpened edges. When one edge eventually wears down, you simply loosen the brass retention screw with the included Torx wrench, rotate the insert 90 degrees to expose a fresh, unused factory edge, and lock it back down. This gives you four times the service life before needing a replacement blade.
The tool is quite small. Is it comfortable to use for extended periods, and does it mar the surrounding wood?
The HD-GD05 is engineered specifically as a micro-detailing instrument, meaning it is meant to be held like a precision pen or chisel for targeted work rather than gripped like a heavy cabinet scraper. The main body is CNC-machined from solid 6061 aluminum with radiused edges and an ergonomic finger recess, providing excellent tactile feedback. Because the aluminum body is significantly softer than the carbide blade and thoroughly deburred, it will not mar or scratch your wood surfaces when held at the correct scraping angle.
Where can I get replacement carbide inserts when all the edges are used up? Are they standard sizes?
Replacement inserts are readily available directly through our official brand store and authorized global distributors. The inserts are precision-ground to proprietary tolerances to fit the low-profile recess of the HD-GD05 perfectly, ensuring zero blade shift or chatter during heavy scraping. Each replacement kit includes fresh screws and a dedicated wrench.
